At Jisc, we have a range of projects and initiatives looking to provide new digital-based solutions to support Higher and Further education institutions in providing first-class learning, teaching and research. As a not-for-profit membership organisation we use a process called co-design to work with our members to collaboratively develop new ideas.
Following feedback from our members we’re refining our co-design approach and introducing new elements to be more responsive and to allow you to follow our progress more closely.
The first of these is the newly formed horizons group, made up of a diverse group of senior stakeholders from HE, FE and relevant other sectors to provide. Each meeting will include an analysis of emerging technology trends and will identify areas that warrant further exploration. It will also focus on a deep dive of one topic, chosen by the group, for which experts will be invited to provide relevant insight. A horizons report will be produced from the discussion of the meeting.
Following each meeting, we will run a co-design lab, made up of a small group of practitioners from the sector. Co-design labs are short innovation sprints designed to develop a set of ideas in response to the challenges identified by the horizons group. Each group will select one idea to develop further and prepare a pitch they can present to the community. The ideas they come up with will be publicly available and open to all, and Jisc will look to take on suitable ideas as new projects.
Quarterly Learnings call
We are also introducing a new quarterly learnings call, open to everyone, which we hope will make it easier to follow the progress of some of our research and development projects and provide a chance for questions and feedback.
We held the first learnings call last week. This covered three topics:
- An introduction to Jisc’s research and development work
- The Intelligent campus
- Education 4.0
You can watch a recording of the webinar here:
Finally, we have produced a written R&D progress update, released alongside our the Learnings call, which provides a brief update on many of our current projects.
- Research data shared service
- Intelligent campus
- Edtech launchpad
- Digital apprenticeships
- Building digital capability
- Open metrics lab
- and other projects under investigation
The next Learnings call will take place on February 12th, you can register for the webinar now.
To keep updated on all the things mentioned above, you will find a subscribe by email option on the right of this webpage which will email you when a new update is posted.
